As many of you may know, the Harry Potter Alliance recently launched its annual "Accio Books" campaign, wherein nerds and Harry Potter lovers everywhere work together to collect books in their local communities to donate to organizations who will put those books in the hands of people who need them.
Since 2009, over 100,000 books have been donated as a result of Accio Books!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take up the charge of Accio Books in your own local nerdfighter groups. Work together to find a local donation recipient (or mail books into the Brightmoor Community Center in Detroit, the HPA’s featured Accio Books partner), hold a book drive, collaborate with local businesses to set up book donation boxes, get the word out, and collect those books!
This campaign is a fantastic way to get together and have fun with nerdfighters, while decreasing worldsuck at the same time.
The lovely folks at the HPA have put together a comprehensive, special Nerdfighter edition of their Accio Books guide, filled with everything you need to know in order to get a book drive going in your local community.
The book drive officially ends on May 31st (or at least that is when the House Cup competition concludes [more info about this is in the book drive guide]), but don’t feel constrained by this deadline! Charity and magic is good all year round.
