Seven years ago right now, millions of people were counting down to midnight and Accio Deathly Hallows was still the fandom’s theme song.

Ahh, memories.

We’re taking the most magical book swap on earth to VidCon. Stop by our booth with a book you want to share (maybe throw in a few Nerdfighter notes for good measure) and take home a new book from someone else. Need more convincing? Check out our Apparating Library in action at LeakyCon London.

THINGS TO DO!!! Reblog and share this post!!!

Bring a book to VidCon, give it to HPA peeps, take home a brand new (to you) book!

The internet is in danger. We know you hear this all the time, but things are getting really serious, and fast. The Federal Communications Commission is planning to propose new rules on May 15th that would allow Internet service providers to charge content companies for special access to consumers. This would be the end of Net Neutrality.
But there is hope.
If the FCC reclassifies the internet, it can preserve net neutrality. Watch Hank Green’s excellent video breaking it down and then take action. Tell the FCC to do what is right, instead of what is easy.

As many of you may know, the Harry Potter Alliance recently launched its annual "Accio Books" campaign, wherein nerds and Harry Potter lovers everywhere work together to collect books in their local communities to donate to organizations who will put those books in the hands of people who need them.
Since 2009, over 100,000 books have been donated as a result of Accio Books!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take up the charge of Accio Books in your own local nerdfighter groups. Work together to find a local donation recipient (or mail books into the Brightmoor Community Center in Detroit, the HPA’s featured Accio Books partner), hold a book drive, collaborate with local businesses to set up book donation boxes, get the word out, and collect those books!
This campaign is a fantastic way to get together and have fun with nerdfighters, while decreasing worldsuck at the same time.
The lovely folks at the HPA have put together a comprehensive, special Nerdfighter edition of their Accio Books guide, filled with everything you need to know in order to get a book drive going in your local community.
The book drive officially ends on May 31st (or at least that is when the House Cup competition concludes [more info about this is in the book drive guide]), but don’t feel constrained by this deadline! Charity and magic is good all year round.
If your community makes plans to join Accio Books, please let me know; I’d love to feature your campaign here on fynf.
SO! Check out that guide and get planning!
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at valerie@nerdfighteria.com or the HPA at acciobooks@thehpalliance.org

I Am President Snow

And so are you. Well, maybe. Turns out President Snow isn’t just one person in our world and the causes of economic inequality can’t be blamed on any one bad guy. Even in the Hunger Games, President Snow isn’t the villain. The villain is a culture of greed and excess that has devalued and dehumanized the people who help make that culture possible. Let Hank tell you the real cause of inequality in our world and then take a step towards changing it by joining the resistance.

The Price of Dawn by John Green | Redesigned book cover
My entry for The Price of Dawn cover contest. I don’t usually join design contests because I get really intimidated with the other entries.. but redesigning book covers is something I really enjoy so why not! :)

The winner of The Price of Dawn cover design contest (as chosen by John) is Risa Rodil with her stunning, stark, epic illustration! Congrats Risa! Her creation will be used as the cover of the pdf version of The Price of Dawn, which you can get for only 2 more hours at equalityftw.org!
Huzzah and huzzah!

Another try at a Price of Dawn cover :)

Have you submitted your entry for our The Price of Dawn cover design contest yet? There are only 3 days left (we’re taking submissions until the end of Tuesday).
ALSO have you reserved a copy of The Price of Dawn excerpt that John’s gonna write?! You can do so here, and you’ll be donating to charity at the same time. Awesome.
