info
Hello! Sorry this has taken so long but, in case you missed it, we have (finally) announced the 10 charities the community chose to receive the money raised during the Project for Awesome:
- Office of Letters and Light
- Not Forgotten
- Wildlife Waystation
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Harry Potter Alliance
- Save the Children
- BGSU Dance Marathon
- Uncultured Project
- Techo
- Love146
By March 22nd we will be contacting each organization individually to inform them of when the grants will be made and how much they should expect to receive. In all, we raised over $400,000 but are still calculating all expenses and fees of the perks and shipping - so we don’t have an exact number to share, but it is more than we ever thought possible. These grants will decrease some serious suck.
DFTBA,
Foundation to Decrease World Suck
Quick update
We haven’t announced the winners of Project for Awesome yet because we are still working out the finer logistics of actually giving the money to a couple of them. There’s some minor (and boring) administrative things we have to do in order to stay in compliance with the people that monitor that kind of stuff, and as soon as that is all handled we’ll break out the megaphone and let everyone know who to congratulate. That moment is coming very soon… stay tuned!
PERKS!
We are feverishly working on perks and shipping them out daily. When your perk has been shipped, our shipping software should send you an email letting you know which item was shipped. There are several perks that have been complicated by rejected addresses, return-to-senders, no-such-name reports from the post office, erroneous zip codes, etc etc etc.
If you have already sent an email to either info@projectforawesome.com or perks@projectforawesome.com, your email has been received and will be handled as promptly and thoroughly as is humanly possible. You do not need to resend your email. Again, if you have already sent an email, it has been received, you do not need to resend. Doing so will only slow us down from researching and resolving problems.
That being said, here’s a list of what has been sent:
Men of YouTube Calendars
Signed Pride & Prejudice books (Lizzie Bennet level)
P4A tees w/ P4A lapel pin
Hanklerfish art
Felicia Day posters
Hank’s Face mp3
John Green ebook
John Green and Maureen Johnson short storyIf your perk is not listed above, please don’t email us yet!
Again, if you have sent an email about your non-receipt of any of the above perks, your email has been received and we are working on fixing it. Unfortunately there isn’t a blanket fix for problem shipments, each one has to be researched individually and that is taking us some time.
If you have NOT sent us an email about your non-receipt, please do alert us so that we can get you your deserved perk.
Thank you so much for your patience, your support, and your awesomeness!
If you missed out on snagging one of the Men of Youtube calendars during the Project for Awesome, now’s your chance to pick one up! You can preorder from DFTBA Records, and all the proceeds will still go directly to the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck. Huzzah!
Meet the Team: The Missoula Office (And P4A and TheBrainScoop)
http://www.youtube.com/thebrainscoop
We’ve been making Crash Course and SciShow for more than a year now and, of course, we can’t do it by ourselves. So I wanted to take you around our offices a bit and introduce the people who help us make this stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/scishow
http://www.youtube.com/crashcourse
Also, we raised a CRAZY amount of money through the Project for Awesome. There were also a CRAZY number of videos made promoting charities and IndieGoGo assures us that we’ve broken a number of their records. So that’s pretty dang cool.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the P4A a success this year.

This is not a drill, you guys. Don’t regret missing out on the awesome!
HOLY WHAT! The amazing 1:1 replica of the Back to the Future hoverboard signed by the SourceFed crew and Philip DeFranco sold for over 4000 dollars. That’s INCREDIBLE. You have less than 8 hours left to nab the equally amazing George Watsky Super Pack and only 2 hours left before the indiegogo perks disappear FOREVER. Hurry hurry!
DON’T FORGET! The P4A’s ebay auctions end soon!
If you act quickly, you could become the proud new owner of a 1:1 replica of the Back to the Future hoverboard signed by the SourceFed crew and Philip DeFranco or the George Watsky Super Pack which includes very, very hard or impossible to find albums, the medallion he got on the Ellen show, script sides from a super secret upcoming role (the only time he’s been on a call sheet with Michael Cera), and more! Do not delay, my friends. Time runneth out! And all the money goes to charity! So you’re donating $$$ AND getting insanely awesome stuff in return. BONUS.

P4A’s over now, but this beautiful artwork is still quite rad!!
The Project for Awesome is officially over! Thank you so much to those of you who made videos, voted on videos, commented on videos, and pledged your money and/or time to charity. The world is a better place because of you.
There is still time left to donate to get the perks on the IndieGoGo page, and you can still bid on the SourceFed-signed hoverboard and George Watsky super prize pack.
The past few days have been so fun, and we want to try to recap all of the greatness that went on. If you have posts of your favorite moments of the P4A, please submit them to us (preferably by linking to posts you’ve already made); we’re going to create a giant Project for Awesome retrospective post that highlights as much of the ridiculousness as we can.
Thanks again to all who helped put the “Awesome” in Project for Awesome—we love you all very much, and GET SOME SLEEP!
