info
DFTBA Records just updated a bunch of their tshirt product shots. You’re welcome.
Obviously, the Mental Floss Video set has been my life for a while. (And how…) It’s turning out better than I could’ve imagined and one reason why it feels particularly special to me is the amount of Nerdfighter artwork I’ve been able to knit into both the curio and gallery walls.
I’m going to post another appreciation compilation for all the little pieces made by the talented hands of the community (when I’ve been able to identify them, so if you see your work on the set and we aren’t currently in contact about it, message me!!!!), but there is one particular artist that I have been so lucky to work with: Brie Lee (blog: lesscommittedvangogh).
She’s so talented and has been extraordinarily generous in sharing her multi-medium gifts with us. As featured in last week’s debut video (now viewed almost 1.75 million times so far), her portraits are my favorites, but just look at her awesome poly clay pieces!
Thank you so much, Brie! You are awesome.
In case you missed it! John’s appearance on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is up on youtube! Skip to 27:45 in to see his interview (and make sure to watch through until the end of the show)! YAY!

The new commemorative Kiva Nerdfighters 2million dollar mug.
This mug was awarded as a prize to the Kiva Nerdfighter who guessed the exact time we would lend our two millionth dollar.
This occurred about 11am on Friday March 8th.
Text says: Nerdfighters Grind Our Two Million Beans. March 8, 2013
Also included are a Kiva logo’ed coffee grinder, an ancient globe of less suck, a quaint coffee tray, some spoons and of course the initialism - DFTBA.
If you haven’t yet joined the Nerdfighters group on Kiva or don’t visit us often, you’re missing out on lots of fun contests, challenges, lending themes and other such good stuff. Come on over!
A Note on Nerdfighters →
In her article about transgender teens in the magazine this week, Margaret Talbot quotes Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s son Stephen calling himself, among other things, a “nerd fighter.” It might escape the average reader’s notice that this term is more than the sum of its parts. In the teen-age population, “nerdfighter” (as a compound word) has a very specific meaning and etymology. Primarily, it identifies the teen-ager in question as a follower of John Green…

Understand the Sequester (Spoiler: It’s Bananas.)
In which John explains how the United States arrived at Sequestration, while also describing what exactly the Sequester is. Along the way, he explores deficits and debts and other matters of governmental budgets. It’s bananas.

On the day that the Nerdfighter Kiva Lending Team hit $2 million, our Executive Director Andrew Slack was able to snap this photo with Muhammed Yunus at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.
In 2006, Muhammed Yunus and Grameen Bank received the Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts through microcredit to create economic and social development from below.” They basically invented the concept behind Kiva and microfinancing.
Let it be known: Muhammed Yunus Doesn’t Forget to Be Awesome!
