projectforawesome:

Hello! Sorry this has taken so long but, in case you missed it, we have (finally) announced the 10 charities the community chose to receive the money raised during the Project for Awesome:

  1. Office of Letters and Light
  2. Not Forgotten
  3. Wildlife Waystation
  4. Alzheimer’s Society
  5. Harry Potter Alliance
  6. Save the Children
  7. BGSU Dance Marathon
  8. Uncultured Project
  9. Techo
  10. Love146

By March 22nd we will be contacting each organization individually to inform them of when the grants will be made and how much they should expect to receive. In all, we raised over $400,000 but are still calculating all expenses and fees of the perks and shipping - so we don’t have an exact number to share, but it is more than we ever thought possible. These grants will decrease some serious suck.

Foundation to Decrease World Suck

The new commemorative Kiva Nerdfighters 2million dollar mug.

This mug was awarded as a prize to the Kiva Nerdfighter who guessed the exact time we would lend our two millionth dollar.

This occurred about 11am on Friday March 8th.

Text says: Nerdfighters Grind Our Two Million Beans. March 8, 2013

Also included are a Kiva logo’ed coffee grinder, an ancient globe of less suck, a quaint coffee tray, some spoons and of course the initialism - DFTBA.

If you haven’t yet joined the Nerdfighters group on Kiva or don’t visit us often, you’re missing out on lots of fun contests, challenges, lending themes and other such good stuff. Come on over!

Thanks to all of you who donated to the Nerdfighter Kiva group’s KI7A fundraiser, we were able to raise enough money (almost $1500!) to purchase an interactive whiteboard for the Kiva offices. Just today, Brandon, Kiva’s community marketing coordinator, posted a thank you video and the following message on the group’s wall:

Hey Nerdfighters!

At the end of last year, you rallied together to buy us an amazing magic whiteboard. Well we got it installed, and thought you’d like to see it in action. Check out this video we made for you! youtu.be/Ap8KM4bl-OA

Thank you again for your incredible generosity and passion for Kiva!

So I have an idea…

justateennerd:

This is just an idea; I don’t have anything set yet, but I’m just tossing this out there to see if this would be anything you guys would be interested in.

So you know the charity This Star Won’t Go Out, right?  (If not, you can check out the website here: http://tswgo.org/ )  Well, it helps out families with children who have cancer.  Well, ever since the Project For Awesome, I’ve been thinking about how lucky I am and how there are so many people out there who need help.  I want to help them.

So, I might be getting some money for Christmas (not sure if I am, or how much I’ll be getting if I do get any) and I was thinking what better way to spend it than giving it to a charity that I really care about?

But then I got to thinking: how can I make this a little more interactive with you guys?  Then it hit me.  So you know those little origami stars that look like this?  image

I was thinking that I would open it up to you guys and ask you to make some of these stars and get really creative with it, and for every star made I would donate 10 cents of my money to the charity up to whatever amount I get for Christmas.  And you guys could post photos of your stars and I could pick the ones that are the most creative and maybe have a whole blog dedicated to it or something awesome like that.

So would this be something you guys are interested in?  I want to donate no matter what, but I just think this could add some extra fun to it.  I would really appreciate some feedback!  Thanks and DFTBA!

DON’T FORGET! The P4A’s ebay auctions end soon!
If you act quickly, you could become the proud new owner of a 1:1 replica of the Back to the Future hoverboard signed by the SourceFed crew and Philip DeFranco or the George Watsky Super Pack which includes very, very hard or impossible to find albums, the medallion he got on the Ellen show, script sides from a super secret upcoming role (the only time he’s been on a call sheet with Michael Cera), and more! Do not delay, my friends. Time runneth out! And all the money goes to charity! So you’re donating $$$ AND getting insanely awesome stuff in return. BONUS.

The Project for Awesome is officially over! Thank you so much to those of you who made videos, voted on videos, commented on videos, and pledged your money and/or time to charity. The world is a better place because of you.
There is still time left to donate to get the perks on the IndieGoGo page, and you can still bid on the SourceFed-signed hoverboard and George Watsky super prize pack.
The past few days have been so fun, and we want to try to recap all of the greatness that went on. If you have posts of your favorite moments of the P4A, please submit them to us (preferably by linking to posts you’ve already made); we’re going to create a giant Project for Awesome retrospective post that highlights as much of the ridiculousness as we can.
Thanks again to all who helped put the “Awesome” in Project for Awesome—we love you all very much, and GET SOME SLEEP!

There Is No “Them” - Project For Awesome

This is the story of Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Jews — along with those of many other faiths and those with no religion at all — uniting to help those in need. Together we helped transform a community in need.

Where once children studied in the dirt — they now have a school building. Where once students had no access to a sanitation — now they have a school bathroom. Where once students had no access to clean water — they now have a school tube well.

This was funded entirely by donations to:

http://uncultured.com/donate

Let’s talk about how amazing this is.
